C.Med frequently asked questions

1. What is a Chartered Mediator (C.Med) designation?
The “C.Med” or “Chartered Mediator” designation is Canada's only official designation for practising mediators. Please click here for a more complete description of the requirements.


2. Are there prerequisites?
The applicant must be a member in good standing of ADR Canada through one of our seven affiliates. There are extensive training and experience requirements which you should review before you consider applying. The applicant must also provide proof of insurance in the amount of $1 million or apply for an exemption from insurance. For a more complete description of the requirements, please click here.


3. Where do I get the C.Med Application Form?
You can print the application form from this website or contact your regional affiliate, and they will mail or fax a copy upon request.


4. Is there a fee for the C.Med application?
For information on application fees, please contact your affiliate.


5. Is there an ongoing cost?

Yes. The annual fee to maintain your C.Med designation is $150.00 (plus GST) payable to ADR Institute of Canada, Inc. The national organization bills you every year. You must also remain a member in good standing of an affiliate to retain this designation.


6. How do I apply?

Forward your completed application form, along with any attachments necessary to verify the courses you have taken and the work you have done (think of it as marketing yourself to the accreditation committee), to your local affiliate.
